about chsaf
Vision: The Columbine High School Academic Foundation (CHSAF) seeks to provide important educational tools to empower teachers, ensure that CHS students meet the rigorous standards set by Jeffco Public Schools, and prepare them for the 21st-century workplace.

Escalating costs. Limited resources. Ever-changing needs or a diverse student population.
It has become increasingly difficult for Columbine High School to provide the important educational tools needed to keep students competitive in Colorado and prepared for the 21st-century workplace.

Led by former and current principals Frank DeAngelis and Mr. Scott Christy, Columbine High School exhibits strong academic performance annually–but escalating costs continue to make it increasingly difficult for CHS to provide all of the important educational tools to support students and teachers in the classroom.

While Columbine has over twenty booster clubs to support various athletic, music and cheer groups, before the establishment of the Frank DeAngelis Columbine High School Academic Foundation there was no group focused on raising funds to help meet the academic needs at CHS. In response to this clear financial need, the Foundation was established in 2009 by a group of parents to raise funds for educational purposes to support the interests of CHS, its students, staff and teachers.

The Foundation is an all-volunteer, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The Foundation’s goal is to inspire parents, alumni, and community members to support the future of Columbine High School by donating money, volunteering, and generating support for the school.

The Foundation is completely independent of Jefferson County Public Schools, and one-hundred percent of the money raised goes directly to Columbine High School. The Foundation’s Board of Directors accepts funding requests from teachers and departments heads. The Board then makes funding decisions and awards grants based on academic needs and the number of students who will be impacted by each grant.

In the past, CHSAF has raised enough money to provide funds to teachers and departments throughout the school to purchase resources that are unique to their classrooms and enrich the learning experience for all students. Some of these projects include mounting projectors to the ceiling in every classroom, purchasing iPads for students with significant needs (SSN), purchasing new document cameras for classrooms, purchasing DSLR cameras for the Photography Department, installing a brand new sound system for both the instrumental music and theater departments, providing funding for educator professional development, and installing sound and projection systems in the cafeteria for school and community events.

Since its inception, the Foundation has raised at least $25,000 every school year. Interested in partnering with CHSAF? Find out how you can get involved!
