The Frank DeAngelis Columbine High Schools Academic Foundation (CHSAF) seeks to provide important educational tools to empower teachers, ensure that CHS students meet the rigorous standards set by Jefferson County Public Schools, and prepare them for the 21st-century workplace.

Former Columbine Principal Frank DeAngelis

Led by former and current principals Frank DeAngelis and Mr. Scott Christy, Columbine High School has a rich tradition of academic achievement and success inside and outside of the classroom. While Columbine has over twenty booster clubs to support various athletic, music and cheer groups, prior to 2009 there was no group focused on raising funds to help meet the academic needs at CHS. In response to this clear financial need, the Academic Foundation was established in 2009 by a group of parents with the goal of raising funds to support the educational interests of CHS, its students, and teachers.

The Academic Foundation is an all-volunteer, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, with the goal of inspiring parents, alumni, and community members to support the future of Columbine High School by donating money, volunteering, and generating support for the school.

Columbine Principal Mr. Scott Christy

CHSAF is completely independent of Jefferson County Public Schools, and one-hundred percent of the money raised goes directly to Columbine High School. The Foundation’s Board of Directors  meets four times throughout the school year and accepts funding requests from teachers and departments heads. The Board then makes funding decisions and awards grants based on academic needs and the number of students who will be impacted by each grant.

In the past, CHSAF has raised enough money to provide funds to teachers and departments throughout the school to purchase resources that are unique to their classrooms and enrich the learning experience for all students.  Some of these projects include mounting projectors to the ceiling of every classroom, installing a brand new sound system for both the instrumental music and theater departments, purchasing Chromebooks for educational use, providing funding for educator professional development, purchasing iPads for our special needs Challenge Program, purchasing new document cameras for classrooms, providing funds for the creation of a new computer lab in the school, purchasing DSLR cameras for the Photography Department,  and providing Airliner wireless slates for every classroom in the school.  The foundation’s goal for the 2019-2020 school year is to raise enough money to continue replacing the projectors that were purchased nine years ago and fund professional development opportunities for teachers.

Since its inception, the Foundation has raised at least $25,000 every school year.  Help us raise another $25,000 during the 2021-2022 school year! Interested in partnering with CHSAF? Find out how you can get involved!
